Ellen DeGeneres Opens Up About Carrie Fisher, Brings Everyone To Tears

2016 was a year full of loss for the entertainment industry. So many legends of the music industry and actors lost their lives to the dragon of old age and to the fruits of their past mistakes.

One of these legends lost to an unfortunate case of a weak heart. On her flight to Los Angeles, Carrie Fisher went into cardiac arrest, and passed away a short time after. This death was unfortunate for a number of reasons, one of them being that she was well known for being a princess (ironically) that stood up for the idea that women could take care of themselves, and began a feminist movement in a way.

So many people looked up to her for that, and now they have a permanent reminder of who she was and what she stood for. There’s a condition that exists called “broken heart syndrome”. This is when someone passes away because someone very close to them recently died. Unfortunately, Debbie Reynolds, mother of Carrie Fisher, fell victim to broken heart syndrome. As another legend in the acting game, the loss of two wonderful actresses was absolutely devastating.

Regardless of their prestige as actresses, no mother should EVER have to experience the death of their child, especially so late in life. However, rather than fearing the same concept, it’s important to understand and appreciate those that struggle through these heartbreaking experiences. One of those that paid homage to Carrie Fisher was Ellen Degeneres, who was one of her good friends.

Degeneres took time out of her show to tribute to her late friend, and express her grief for the only successor. Now that 2016 has passed, 2017 will certainly bring joy and reflection on the lives of not just Fisher and Reynolds, but all of those that passed during the “worst year of our lives”.
