Pensioner Goes On His First Date With A 22-Year-Old After 55 Years!

The world of dating has vastly changed since 2000, it’s become so much easier for millennials. Facebook and Tinder have made things so much simpler.

Before the internet dating wasn’t as easy, you had to actually meet people and engage with them. So imagine this nerve-wracking experience that must have to be like. Edwin Holmes is a lonely widower who did it the old fashioned but now after many dateless years, he was asked out on a date by 22-year-old Sainsbury’s worker Ellie Walker.

She heard about the 86-year-old and how he’s a widower who spends his days alone so she decided to take him out for drinks and she later learned it was his first date in 55 years. Edwin turned up all dressed up, flowers in and it brought his 22-year-old date Ellie to tears. Ellie told The Sun that; “He said it was his first ‘date’ in 55 years and he was as nervous as a schoolboy. It made me cry because I could see how much it meant to him. For me, it’s the most important part of my job to speak with customers and see how their day is going.”

Ellie and Edwin have become fast friends since their dinner date. Edwin frequents Sainsbury’s in Leeds, she’s even said; ‘he is without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite customer.’ The two often meet up for coffee and catch up. “He is the cutest man and so chatty. I thought if it was my granddad and he was alone I would want someone to talk to him. I see him regularly now and we meet for coffee. It’s nice to be able to chat with him.”

Edwin is a true gentleman, proving chivalry is not dead. In 2006 he lost his wife of 45 years. His daughters live in Australia with their children. He doesn’t have anyone here, he had this to say about their date; “The dinner made me very happy as it was unexpected and I had very pleasant company. As for the suit, it was my first date for about 55 years, and I got the flowers because I wasn’t going to go empty handed.” Edwin Said.

This man is the last of his kind.
