Sikh Temples Provide Free Food And Shelter Following Deadly Terror Attack In London

Following the horrific attacks in London, the Sikh Community has joined in with people all across London to show their support by informing people of any faith that they are welcome at their Temples if they need food or shelter.

Still reeling from the previous terror attack in Manchester which saw a bomb being set off outside an Ariana Grande concert, the latest incident saw a van plowing into pedestrians and tourists at the famous London Bridge. The attackers then went on to stab people around Borough Market. Seven people were killed and 48 seriously injured in the wake of the attack. 21 of the victims are in a critical condition.

The Sikh community sent out their appeal via social media including locations of Sikh Temples in and around the area of the attacks. Response to the Sikh community’s show of support has seen hundreds of people posting online with such comments as:

“The Sikh community amazing as always, need more of these kind-hearted people in the world.”
“The Sikh community is a shining example of successful integration. You guys are awesome, we’re in this together.”
“The wonderful Sikh community first there again. Thank you for all your kindness and help in many different times of crisis.”

Other local residents also took to Twitter and Facebook to offer assistance to those who may have become stranded and disoriented following the attacks. Offering their homes and beds for the night. “I live about 15 mins from London Bridge if anyone needs somewhere to stay, charger, tea, a comfy sofa, somewhere safe DM me.”

A statement following the attack by the General of the Muslim Council of Britain read:

“Appalled and angered by the terrorist attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market. These acts of violence were truly shocking and are condemned them in the strongest terms. Muslims everywhere are outraged and disgusted at these cowards who once again have destroyed the lives of our fellow Britons. That this should happen in this month of Ramadan, when many Muslims were praying and fasting only goes to show that these people respect neither life nor faith.”
