Terminally Ill Boy Has Just One Wish – To Meet Santa. But What He Asks Him?

In a tragic Christmas tale, a young boy close to death was given one last moment of hope and he got his wish to meet Santa Claus. Sadly, the small boy died in an embrace with Father Christmas at a Tennessee hospital.

The 5 year old boy was terminally ill and held on just long enough to meet Santa and open his present before passing away, in Santa’s arms. “They say I’m gonna die,” the young boy told Santa who was played by one Eric Schmitt-Matzen, a regular Santa. This was just moments before he died. He then asked Santa:. “How can I tell when I get to where I’m going?”

A visibly upset Schmitt-Matzen answered, “When you get there, you tell ’em you’re Santa’s No. 1 elf, and I know they’ll let you in.” Schmitt-Matzen really looks the part, at 60 years of age, weighing over 300 pounds and sporting a big white beard. He works as a mechanical engineer and a few weeks back was frantically called to the hospital by a nurse and urged to hurry.

It was clear to all the poor boy only had a very short time left. When he got the urgent call he rushed out without even being able to change into his Santa outfit. All he managed was the suspenders. Given his natural Santa type appearance, he was still able to pull off the look when he made it to the hospital in 15 minutes flat. Not a minute too soon.

As he arrived, a nurse was waiting with a wrapped Christmas present for the dying child. “When I walked in, he was laying there, so weak it looked like he was ready to fall asleep,’’ the emotional Schmitt-Matzen told reporters “I sat down on his bed and asked, ‘Say, what’s this I hear about you’re gonna miss Christmas? There’s no way you can miss Christmas. Why, you’re my No. 1 elf.’”

The young boy, whose name we do not know summoned the last of his energy and eagerly opened his present. It was a traumatic event for Schmitt-Matzen as well as the boy’s mother. The nurses were also very emotional. A sad, bittersweet ending for this unfortunate young man.
