The Statue Of Liberty Went Dark Overnight… Could This Be A Sign?

At 11 p.m on a Tuesday night in New York, Lady Liberty was cloaked in Darkness. The lights that normally illuminate her were off from 11 pm, the only thing that was still visible around the harbor was her crown and still-lit torch.

This moment of darkness was claimed as a universal moment of freedom. There is, however, more than one interpretation. One opinion is that she’s protesting Trump’s travel ban or Trump in general. The President recently signed the revised executive order that makes entering the country hard for 6 Muslim-majority countries. The other opinion is that Lady Liberty is joining in the #DayWithoutWomen, which is a strike that encourages women to skip work to make the world go a day without women to show them what it would be like.

One twitter user tweeted a message to Trump; “I’ve been wondering how long before France asks @realDonaldTrump for the statue of liberty back as he clearly doesn’t respect its symbolism.” Trump even responded; “I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy.”

It’s, unfortunately, all speculation, many have asked the question if one of the nation’s most well-known female faces was participating in the Day without Woman movement. Many twitter users had something to say about this all; “Lady Liberty got the message” and another; “That’s ONE MORE woman America CANNOT do without,” all thanking her for helping send the message.

Some even speculated that Russian hackers were to blame. The lights were back on at midnight and the national Park service came out with a statement regarding the situation; “power and a lighting system controller had been switched off in order to change out faulty lighting equipment. Upon completion of that project, power was restored, but the outage was a result of a failure to properly reset the lighting system controller. While this was an unplanned outage, there will be some planned outages related to the installation of a new emergency backup generator for Liberty Island. We anticipate those outages will take place over the next few weeks.”

In the short time since Trump’s inauguration, the US has experienced painful blows as the land of the free becomes the opposite. Artist John W. Tomac had this to say; “It used to be that the Statue of Liberty, and her shining torch, was the vision that welcomed new immigrants. And, at the same time, it was the symbol of American values. Now it seems that we are turning off the light.”
