William Herbert Wallace met his wife, Julia, in 1911 whilst working for the Liberal Party in England. They married shortly afterward in March 1914.


Initially, it was thought that Julia was the same age as Wallace. However, in 2001 it was discovered on her birth certificate that she was actually 17 years older. Not much is known about her early life, other than the fact that her father was a ruined alcoholic farmer.


During their first year of marriage, World War I broke out and Wallace was left without a job. His father helped him to get a job at the Prudential Insurance Company in Liverpool, England and the Wallaces moved to Liverpool the following year. This is where their bizarre story really starts…
