Transgender Man Completes Surgery To Look Like Shayne Ward

A transgender man from Northampton in England has undergone surgery to look like his hero Shayne Ward, one of the stars of popular British soap opera Coronation Street.

Shay Robertson’s (Sally)story began in her teen years when she noticed her attraction to other woman, but dismissed the feelings going on to marry. In a statement Shay admitted “For years I tried to live my life as a normal mum. But I didn’t feel comfortable in myself and couldn’t put my finger on why”.

One evening, Shay was watching Shayne Ward performing on stage and suddenly everything made sense, Shay wanted to look like Shayne and finally realised he was trapped in the wrong body and took the decision to undergo gender reassignment and transition from woman to man. Shay partner Julie McLean gave him full support in the life changing decision.

Over the next five years starting with hormone treatments, followed by surgeries involving a total hysterectomy, double mastectomy, and genital reassignment surgery – with skin grafts for his penis taken from his arm and buttocks, the transformation took place. “The procedures were gruelling,” explained Shay. “I spent weeks in hospital. But I was delighted to see my silhouette becomes more masculine each time I was discharged.”

My body has been through a lot, but finally I feel happy in my own skin. I am comfortable with who I am and love getting called ‘mate’ or ‘fella’ at the garage.” Shay’s look had not gone unnoticed, Shayne’s sister Leona say an article in a magazine about Shay and told her brother about Shay’s transformation.

Shay was delighted to receive a signed photograph and personalized note expressing his full support for Shay and how he was honored to have been such an inspiration. Many transgender people such as Shay experience gender dysphoria, and as in Shays case, some seek medical treatments such as hormone replacement therapy, sex reassignment surgery.

Not all transgender people desire these treatments, and some cannot undergo them for financial or medical reasons.
